DIY Natural Cosmetics

Most people these days are using chemical products, and many of these products contains dozens of harmful chemicals. It says they are tested, but not over a long period of time. They are often mixed with other chemical products or MSG. Since I changed my lifestyle, I always try to use or make natural, ethical, safe and beneficial products.

When I started to use very natural products, I was not comfortable because I was so used to using strong chemicals on my body and it carried a lot of toxicity, but it got easier as my health level went up.

I would like to share with you how to make my homemade products: toothpaste, deodorant, face mask and lip balm. Our skin is our biggest organ and it absorbs good and bad things. These things can enter into our system, so what we put on our skin is incredibly important.

I like to make these products in a small jam jar, so I can use them up and make fresh. It’s also easy to disinfect the jar in boiling water.

1) Charcoal toothpaste; I use extra-virgin coconut oil, Bincho-tan (activated white charcoal) powder and baking soda. It is not minty or refreshing, but it works very well. Coconut oil has strong antibacterial properties, Japanese bincho-tan absorbs toxins and is antibacterial, while baking soda is a gentle abrasive.

2) Deodorant; There’s a link between the use of deodorant spray (particularly those containing aluminium) and breast cancer and other health problems. Armpits are very close to the breast and there is a large Lymph node. My natural deodorant works much better than any shop products. Made with baking soda, extra-virgin coconut oil, bees wax (optional), and some essential oils (clary sage, lavender etc). Baking soda is a great natural deodoriser.

3) Face mask for dark spots; I have several recipes for a face mask but this particular one is good for lightening dark spots, cleansing pores and healing skin. Made with liquorice root powder, bentonite clay, aloe vera gel, neem oil and lemon oil. Sometimes I expose my skin to the sun for too long, so I use this quite often.

4) Lip mask; I don’t use very often now because my lips are in pretty good condition but I used to have very dry lips. This lip mask is simple but quite powerful. Made with coconut oil and raw honey. I usually put it on thinly over night and it makes my lips soft and pink for the next morning.

I didn’t write the exact amounts of the ingredients because it depends on the person, season and issues. I would suggest making one part each for the main ingredients and add one drop each of the essential oils in a small jar and test on the inside of the arm.

I occasionally use some products from shops, but it is preferable to use my own products in many ways. I keep them on my shelf and use them a lot. I’ve never had any problems, only good results.

These products are very good for our body/mind/spirit, better for the environment, and support natural farming and an alternative lifestyle. We always have the choice to be better and create a better world. It is not easy nowadays but we are connected and supported on the deepest level.
